Picking up, Buying, or Renting Vehicles

Picking Up a Vehicle

Once you receive an email notification that your vehicle is ready for pick-up, visit PCS My POV to schedule a pick-up appointment. Arrive early for your appointment with ALL the shipment paperwork from the drop-off VPC.
Pick up your vehicle at the USAG Humphreys VPC. Ensure you inspect the vehicle closely and annotate any damage incurred during shipping to complete the follow-on claims process.
Once picked up, you’ll need to go to the Auto Oasis (behind the main gas station just past the commissary) on Camp Humphreys to get an inspection (unless your vehicle is less than 2 years old), then visit the One-Stop at Maude Hall to complete registration.
PRO-TIP: The Waze app works great when finding your way around base and is the best way to find the Humphreys VPC and Maude Hall. DO NOT use Waze to navigate around Korea (unless you like taking back roads and alleyways to your destination).

Please ensure that you bring a copy of your orders with you!

Buying a Vehicle

The process for buying a car in Korea varies depending on whether you’re buying a new or used car, and whether you’re purchasing from another service member or through a dealership. Here’s a general guideline. Remember, specific procedures can vary, and it’s always a good idea to check the latest official guidelines provided by the base Pass and Registration Office.

Eligibility and Requirements:

Ensure you are eligible to purchase and register a vehicle at Kunsan AB. Talk to your unit leadership if you’re unsure.

Options for Buying a Vehicle

  • Dealerships: There are authorized dealerships at the Base Exchange at both Kunsan AB and USAG Humphreys that sell both new and used vehicles. These dealerships are familiar with the requirements for base personnel
  • Check online buy/sell groups on Facebook for listings from private sellers and off-base dealerships. Purchasing a vehicle that is already SOFA-registered involves fewer steps than purchasing a vehicle that is not SOFA-registered
  • Lemon Lot: Due to space restrictions limiting available parking for vehicles with drivers, Kunsan AB doesn’t have a Lemon Lot

Recommended Steps Before Buying

  • Inspection and Test Drive: Before purchasing, have the vehicle inspected by a trusted mechanic. Test drive the car to ensure it meets your needs and is in good condition
  • Negotiation and Payment: Negotiate the price and terms of the sale. Once agreed upon, make the payment as per the agreed method (cash, bank transfer, financing)
  • Insurance: Before driving the vehicle, get insurance. This may include putting insurance on a vehicle before payment, especially if you plan to test drive and purchase the vehicle on the same day for convenience. Keep in mind time zone differences when calling your insurance company

Renting a Vehicle

Kunsan Air Base is a very walkable base and has several convenient and free shuttles. That said, if you need to rent a car, it is a straightforward process as long as you have the proper documentation. There is a car rental business located inside the BX. To rent a car:
