What to Expect at Off-Base Clinics and Hospitals

Due to the size of the local population and availability of state-of-the-art systems and processes most Korean hospitals have streamlined their processes to reduce waiting and improve patient flow. The result is highly efficient diagnosis and treatment that can also feel very different from what you may be accustomed to in the U.S. From registration to consultation and treatment, procedures are often quick and systematic. Consultations can sometimes feel rushed, especially if you’re used to a slower pace of healthcare in other countries.

Pro-Tips:

  • Upon arrival, report to the international clinic for assistance.
  • Bring your passport, military ID, any Korean identification you might have, and any written prescriptions.
  • Show up to your appointment well informed about why you are there.
  • Writing down questions and take notes to ensure you get the information you need.
  • Be prepared to pay a co-pay at the hospital. If it was unnecessary or an overpay, TRICARE will reimburse you automatically.
  • Prescriptions will likely be billed as part of your visit.
